3 signs you’re craving stability as a freedom-focused CEO

Freedom is something most of us strive for, and in fact, that is often the main reason to venture out from the Corporate world and start on our own entrepreneurial path - breaking free from the grind to enjoy some independence [although I would say this isn’t that case for everyone, some are looking for a change of direction, a different challenge].

So why is it that when we start our own businesses, freedom is the one thing we often DON’T have?

If there’s one thing that any business owner will tell you, it’s that the freedom that comes with owning a business is invaluable. The ability to be your own boss and determine your own hours, the potential to make more money and the excitement of having a growing business are all reasons why people choose to become entrepreneurs.

Although the online space will tell you that you can make money in your sleep and travel while working 3 hours a day - the reality is actually very different for the majority.

This online narrative has fed business owners with an unrealistic view of entrepreneurship and the lasting effect of this is that many business owners feel afraid to be open about their business - fearing judgement for contemplating dipping a toe back into a stable Corporate role or embarrassed to admit that their business it may not be giving them everything they need.

THE TRUTH IS…

…to be able to experience true freedom there needs to be an element of stability

It may sound strange coming from the very people that ‘broke free from the grind’ to find freedom but let’s be frank…

  • How can you feel free if your business isn’t making enough money to allow you to travel

  • How can you feel free if clients are crossing boundaries and you’re on an immediate response time

  • How can you show up and deliver for your clients if you’re constantly feeling pressure to sell

Fear plays a big role in feeling insecure, and it’s that fear that shakes your nervous system starting the ripple effect of pressure, lack of confidence, dwindling energy and imposter syndrome.

Stability means security, and security allows you to recharge the batteries, release the pressure and show up authentically with the headspace to try, test and play!

“When did someone decide that having multiple income streams [from different places] meant that you were failing in one area”

HERE ARE 3 CLEAR SIGNS YOU’RE SEARCHING FOR STABILITY

1) You’re showing up for your business less and less

The pressure of making sales to live the life you want is making you retreat into your shell. It feels all consuming and you don’t know how to get out of the cycle of LACK.

TRY: Explore ways to diversify your income, it could be looking at other freelance roles or a part-time (and flexible) corporate role. There is no one-size-fits-all business and you get to decide what you need to make you feel safe and energised!

2) You’re consuming more than you’re taking action

Let’s face it, social media has a way of making us feel inferior - like we’re behind everyone else on the success train! The fear of other peoples opinion is clouding your judgement and making you second-guess your wants and needs.

TRY: Have a social media free week / month, remove the apps from your phone and get out of the habit of scrolling aimlessly. You’ll soon find your own voice return and creativity bubble over!

3) You’re struggling to see how you can be fully FREE

Now more than ever there are endless ways to make money, alternative ways to live (outside of the traditional buy a house, get married) and it couldn’t be easier to travel all over the world but with SO many options comes overwhelm and paralysis. If, like me, you want to do it all and you want to do it NOW…the struggle to do anything about it is real.

TRY: Journal through what you want your days / weeks / life to look like and break those goals down into manageable chunks. By doing this you can start to identify which of the pillars are crumbling currently [Time, Location, Financial] and explore options to rebuild.
